About the neighborhood

Postwar calm off the parkway

Formerly part of neighboring Wyandanch, Wheatley Heights nearly became its own incorporated village, to be called Half Hollow Hills; the plan never materialized, but the separate identity stuck. This Town of Babylon hamlet is postwar Long Island at its most recognizable: mid-century ranches, split-levels, and colonials on generous lots under mature trees, with tidy lawns and the occasional newer build.

Bethpage State Park, Belmont Lake State Park, and area bike trails are close, the Southern State Parkway is at hand, and Long Island Rail Road stations in Wyandanch and Deer Park cover the commute. A settled community where block parties and backyard barbecues still happen.
