About the neighborhood
New York's youngest town
Formed in 2019 when it separated from Monroe, Palm Tree in southwestern Orange County is the youngest town in New York State. Its name is a translation of Teitelbaum, the surname of the founder of Kiryas Joel, the community established here in the late 1970s that grew from a rural outpost into a densely built village at a remarkable pace.
The housing runs to rows of multi-family residences built close together, with larger floor plans than typical suburban stock and courtyards and playgrounds threaded between them. An extensive network of local schools anchors the town, most daily errands can be handled within it, and the town was planned around shared local institutions, so daily life is organized close to home.
