About the neighborhood
Where Staten Island roads converge
A crossroads named Meiers Corners took its identity from Joachim Meier, an eighteenth-century settler whose stone house stood near Watchogue Road and Bradley Avenue until its demolition in the early 1980s. The junction of Watchogue Road, Jewett Avenue, Victory Boulevard, and Bradley Avenue remains the commercial center of this mid-Staten Island neighborhood, with small businesses and bakeries along Victory Boulevard.
Modest single-family homes from the early and mid twentieth century fill tree-shaded side streets on a largely intact original grid, with a few older survivors among them. Clove Lakes and Willowbrook Parks are nearby for green space, and active civic associations keep the residential blocks tidy. It works as a gateway between the older North Shore and the newer Mid-Island communities.
