About the neighborhood
Caumsett's manor lands
The Matinecock called this land Caumsett, and it was granted as a manor in the late seventeenth century; Caumsett State Historic Park now preserves miles of trails through meadows, woodlands, and rocky shoreline. Gold Coast estates from the early twentieth century sit behind stone gates and long drives in colonial and neoclassical styles, alongside quieter rustic lanes where homes settle in among the trees.
The harbor is shallow and undredged, bordered by wetlands rather than commercial docks, and the village has deliberately kept commercial development out. Daily life runs to woodland walks, kayaking along the coast, and events at the village park. Buyers should expect seclusion and protective ordinances, and plan on driving for essentially everything.
