Village Greens and old woods

Shakespeare's Forest of Arden inspired the name, coined in the late nineteenth century for what was then farmland and marsh on Staten Island's southern end. The defining chapter came in the 1970s, when Village Greens arrived as one of New York City's first planned developments: townhomes and detached houses on curved, tree-lined streets around landscaped commons, with shared pools, tennis courts, and walking paths.
