About the neighborhood

The Gardens of Great Neck

University Gardens occupies the former grounds of the University Golf Club, part of the Greater Great Neck area on Long Island's North Shore; its name pairs with neighboring Russell Gardens, developed at the same time. The original subdivision dates to the late 1920s, built in brick, stone, and woodwork, joined by 1940s Waverly Hills homes designed by H.C. Meyer and the 1950s Great Neck Terrace garden apartments.

The property owners association runs a private pool and tennis club on Sussex Road, reserved for residents and a center of summer life. Streets are walkable and quiet, shops and restaurants are near, and major roads plus the LIRR's Port Washington Branch cover the commute.
