About the neighborhood
A compact village with deep roots
One of Nassau County's smaller villages, South Floral Park sits just south of its namesake Floral Park. Farmland until the early twentieth century, it grew as the Long Island Rail Road opened the area to settlement, and it incorporated as a village in 1925. Avenues like Arthur, Roquette, and Tennessee are lined with well-kept single-family homes, some brick-fronted, others with shutters and flower boxes.
The village is entirely residential, with its own hall and fire station; the fire department's nineteenth-century bell presides over Firemen's Memorial Park. Its legacy as one of Long Island's earliest racially integrated villages remains a point of real pride, and the small scale means neighbors genuinely know one another.
