About the neighborhood
The Eden of Long Island
Developer Dean Alvord, known for Prospect Park South and Belle Terre, planned Roslyn Estates in the early 20th century as a wooded residential retreat, its lanes deliberately meandering through glacial hills, ponds, and preserved green space. Tudors with steeply pitched roofs, dignified colonials, and cottages from the founding era line streets named The Intervale, The Birches, and The Serpentine, and the nickname The Eden of Long Island has stuck.
The Association of Roslyn Estates, the oldest civic association of its kind in Nassau County, still gathers the village for events like springtime charity runs, and the original sales office now serves as a gathering space and restaurant. Farms and grand estates occupied this land before development; today the draw is quiet, park-like streets with greater Roslyn's dining and conveniences close at hand.
