About the neighborhood
The village that went its own way
When efforts to join neighboring Plandome were rebuffed, residents here incorporated their own village in 1929, and that independent streak still defines Plandome Heights. Set between Manhasset and the other Plandomes, its streets mix Mediterranean-inspired homes with stucco facades and red-tiled roofs, a legacy of the Duke family's early development, alongside colonials, Cape Cods, and newer builds. West of Plandome Road the lanes wind into cul-de-sacs; east of it, a traditional grid.
The village is entirely residential, with the shops of Plandome Road, the Manhasset LIRR station, and Manhasset Bay all close. The Civic Association and the Women's Club keep civic life active, and neighbors tend to actually know one another.
