About the neighborhood

The village the Willis family built

East Williston stays deliberately small: a Nassau County village of almost entirely single-family homes, walkable to its own LIRR station, the Village Green, and the shops of adjacent Williston Park. The East Williston Village Historic District, on the National Register of Historic Places, preserves Colonial Revival, Late Victorian, and Gothic Revival architecture from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s, and new construction is rare, so the streetscape holds together.

The Willis family farmed this land beginning in the 17th century, and the Long Island Rail Road turned farmland into a village; the 1930s Wheatley Ridge section rose on land once owned by Will Rogers. The Village Green hosts the Harvest Festival, tree lighting, and Memorial Day observances, the library sits in Village Hall, and a volunteer fire department anchors civic life. Many residents grew up here and came back.
