About the neighborhood

Built on the Mackay estate

The Mackay family's Harbor Hill estate, its mansion designed by Stanford White, once crowned this hilly stretch of Long Island's North Shore; the house is gone, but its Gate Lodge, Dairyman's Cottage, and Water Tower still stand among newer homes. East Hills incorporated as a village in 1931 and filled in after World War II with planned sections such as Strathmore, Country Estates, Norgate, and Lakeville Estates. Colonials, Tudors, and mid-century ranches sit back on generous lots along winding roads east of Roslyn.

The Park at East Hills, built on former military-station grounds, is the center of common life, with pools, nature trails, and tennis and pickleball courts. Village autonomy is part of the identity here, and residents guard it.
