About the neighborhood
Gold Coast, two train stations
Darien grew from an outlying section of Stamford along the old Boston Post Road, became a summer retreat when the railroad arrived in the 19th century, and settled into its role on Connecticut's Gold Coast. Stately colonials, preserved Victorians, and newer builds line the streets, some with white picket fences and stone walls, others with views over Long Island Sound.
Two train stations make the New York commute practical, and the rejuvenated downtown is walkable, with boutique shopping, restaurants, and a movie theater. Pear Tree Point Beach, Tilley Pond, and Selleck Woods cover the outdoors, boating, sailing, and golf fill weekends, and the schools are well regarded. Careful stewardship keeps the historic buildings and the shoreline much as generations have known them.
